About Green Fig

Here at Green Fig we believe simple is best...

Green Fig Soap Studio was born when Lily was unable to find a single skincare product that didn't make her then-toddler daughter break out in irritating eczema

Even the products made for babies caused painful flare ups, so Lily began to experiment with natural skincare, creating beautifully natural products which were as kind to her daughter's precious skin as they were luxurious to use

Lily's passion for natural, ethical skincare - especially cold process soaps - grew, but each bar is still handcrafted in small batches, using traditional methods, for a truly unique product

We're so passionate about our soap that we believe everyone should have some - That's why we run Introduction to Cold Process Soap Making classes, along with other ethical products, so you can learn to make your own safe, natural, zero waste, vegan products

Green Fig Soap Studio only uses natural ingredients (most of which you'd find in your store cupboard) and never ever adds sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), parabens, palm oil, alcohol, petroleum, synthetic colours or fragrances, animal products or any other nasties to our lovely soaps

We only use recyclable packaging with absolutely no plastic - so you can enjoy the benefits to your skin and to our planet

Here at Green Fig Soap Studio we believe that everyone deserves some everyday luxury - that's why we'll even teach you how to make your own.

Hosted in Nottingham, you can learn the magic, chemistry and art of soapmaking to create your very own luxurious, natural, vegan soaps to use at home, give as gifts, or even to start your own small business

You’ll learn everything you need to know to make soap in your own kitchen, using many of the ingredients you probably already have there

When you arrive you'll be welcomed by Lily and get a brief insight into the weird and wonderful history of soapmaking, before we talk through the safety aspects of the class

"I didn’t know how to do anything beforehand so it was great to get the history and science of soap making and a demo"

"I liked the history of soap making and the explanation of how the process works."

Next you'll get to explore the ingredients themselves, discover their individual properties and learn how they each affect the finished soap. You can get hands-on at this point, and touch and smell the beautiful natural ingredients that will go into your soap

Then it's the demonstration. You'll see exactly how it's done as Lily makes a loaf of soap while you watch, taking you through each step. We keep classes small and intimate to make sure that everyone gets individual attention and there's plenty of time to ask questions

"The demo was great because we got to see what each stage looked like, then we were ready and pretty confident to have a go ourselves."

Next it's time for you to don your gloves and aprons and make your very first batch of cold process soap. Lily will be there throughout, if you need help recognising trace, or you want some advice on swirling techniques

Feeling creative? You can choose your own blend of essential oils, natural colours and botanicals from our stocks

Prefer some guidance? Lily will help you form your perfect recipe

"The venue was lovely. The information was great, delivery professional. There was a good selection of essential oils and other items to add to the soap."

Once your first batch is safely in its mould you’ll stop for a break and talk through what went well, what you learnt and what you'll do differently next time

Then it's straight back to work to make your second batch. As with the first you'll choose your own essential oils, micas (natural colours), and dried botanicals for decoration, to make a truly unique soap that is 100% yours

You’ll take the Green Fig recipe home with you so that you can carry on soaping – and of course you get to keep your precious home made soaps (we’ll give you all the information you need to cut and cure them at home)

We can provide a kit to take home with everything you need ready weighed and measured to get soaping in your own kitchen - that way you don't need to wait for orders when you're all fired up

Your kit will include everything you need to make 4 more batches - more than enough to keep your bathroom well stocked and provide gifts for all your friends and family!

You'll get coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter, plus two essential oils, a mould which you can reuse over and over, safety goggles and gloves, a thermometer, and sodium hydroxide. You'll just need to add bottled water and olive oil from your kitchen cupboard

We take bookings for 1-to-1 classes or you can bring friends or family to learn together

Alternatively you can book onto one of our courses and meet some new friends whilst learning a new skill.

Group classes cost £85

One to one classes cost £170

"I had a great time at the soap making workshop yesterday! Lily was eloquent, knowledgeable and patient with us and made the experience enjoyable. I look forward to using my very own vegan soap once it’s cured!"

"I have to recommend Green Fig Soap Studio's fantastic soap making workshop. I learned loads from Lily and most importantly created some gorgeous smelling sandalwood and orange soap to take home."
